I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. use the past continuous tense to talk about things that were happening at a particular time in the past;2·1·c·n·j·y
2. use conjunctions of time “when, while, as” to talk about things.

IV. Teaching procedures A Past continuous tense
Step1 Free talk
Show students a picture of my baby, and introduce my family to them. Then have a free talk with students:
Q1: How many people are there in your family? Q2: Do you live with your parents?
Q3:Will your father hit you if you don’t finish your homework?
Step 2 presentationⅠ
1. Show five videos of my baby-Jack, and ask students five questions: What was Jack doing at 9:00a.m.yesterday ?...

(1) Ask students to have a pair work with their partners like this:
A: what were you/was your mother... doing at...? B: I was/ They were...
(2) Ask the students to discover the rule.

Introduce Jack’s best friend-Angel to the students.
Then ask students to have a guess using the question sentence. Was Angel„at„?

Then ask students like this:
What was Jack doing at 11:30? What was Angel doing at 11:30? „
Ask students to join the two sentences into one sentence
1. Explain the usage of “while”. When there are two long actions, we often use while. 2. Show more sentences and pay more attention to the short action and long action.
3. We use the past continuous tense for the longer action and the simple past tense for the shorter action.
4. Show students four pictures and learn the using of “when”
(1)When Jack came into the room, Angel was washing clothes. (2)When Angel got to school, Jack was riding.
Step 5 PracticeⅡ
When Jack ______(see) Angel, she was singing with her friends. When Jack______ (leave) home, Angel _____(shop) with her Mum.
Make an exchange of the two sentences.(if the shorter action is in the main clause, we can use as to join them.)
