1)To develop their reading and speaking skills.
2) Develop their critical thinking about Charlie Chaplin’s entertaining performance in the Gold Rush.
3) Make a summary of the passage and learn how to introduce a great person 3. Attitude
1) Appreciate and learn to be humorous in life.
2)Find good qualities of Charlie Chaplin and learn from his success Teaching important points:
Have a deep of understanding of Charlie’s success and express their own opinions about his success

1.How to use different skills to fully understand the passage and promote critical thinking.
2.Fully understand how Charlie became a master of nonverbal humor Teaching procedures
Step1:Lead-in 激發(fā)學(xué)生原有知識,引出話題 1. Show the pictures of Guo Degang and Mr Bean.
2. Lead students to talk about crosstalk and mime, so that the teacher can present the new word: nonverbal.
Step2: Prediction大膽預(yù)測文章內(nèi)容,讓學(xué)生對文章有期待感
By reading the title and picture in the textbook, ask students to predict what they will read about Charlie Chaplin in the passage
Step3:Reading for key words通過找主旨句讓學(xué)生明確每段的基本大意 ①Find the key words in each paragraph
Ask students to read through the passage and locate the topic sentence
②Find out What aspects are mentioned about Charlie Chaplin in the passage: Introduction; childhood; typical character; famous film and achievements.
Step4:Reading for understanding分段閱讀,在獲取文本基本信息基礎(chǔ)上深入理解文本的寫作特點(diǎn)和意圖

Q1:How does the little tramp in The Gold Rush make a sad situation entertaining? Ask students to watch a short video about Charlie Chaplin and describe his actions Q2:What do you think of his acting?
Ask ss to share their opinions and invite students to show their acting ⑤Focus on para5:achievements
