Topic:Learn about protecting endangered animals
單元主題語境:人與自然

  1. To learn some information about the present situation of the Tibetan antelopes and the effort made to protect them.
  2. To learn to recognize the importance of protecting the animals in danger and help them to realize that saving the wild animals is saving human beings.

  1. To think about what effort has been made to change the serious situation and what else should be done.

 一. Lead in

In the video: Watch and say: What happened the animals in the video?And what has caused their present situation?____________________________________________
設計意圖:通過簡短的視頻導入,讓學生對本節課的閱讀話題有一個直觀的了解。視頻中的問題能激發學生額學習興趣和求知欲。

 二. Read for the style

From the title, we can know that the article mainly talks about what the writer saw,___heard___ and ___thought____about the endangered animals---Tibetan antelopes in a day. It is a _____travel journal______.

Read for the structure

1. Find out the topic sentences of each paragraph
Para 1: This is why we’re here-- to observe Tibetan antelopes.
Para 2: I am stuck by their beauty, but also reminded of the danger they are in.
Para 3: My guide is Zhaxi.
Para 4: The 1980s and 1990s were bad times for the Tibetan antelope.
Para 5: Save this species from extinction.
Para 6: The measures are effective.
Para 7: When we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet. 
2.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Antelopes are being killed for their valuable fur and their number is decreasing rapidly.
B.It’s important for us human beings to protect antelopes and learn to exist in harmony with nature.
C.Many nature reserves have been set up to protect antelopes in Tibet, Xinjiang and Qinghai.
D.The writer with a group of visitors went to Tibet to see the endangered antelopes.

Task 2: Judge whether the following statements are true(T) or false(F).
1.Antelopes mainly live on snow-covered mountains.(    )
2.The Changtang National Nature Reserve is a shelter for the animals and plants of southwestern Tibet.(    )
3.During the 1970s and 1990s,a large number of antelopes were hunted and their habitats became smaller for heavy pollution.(    )
4.Many parks and gates were added to let the antelopes move easily and keep them safe from cars and trains.(    )
5. From what Zhaxi said, we conclude that if the wildlife is endangered,the life of human beings will come to an end.
Task 3: Complete the mind map and then retell the text according to it.

 四. Read for the language
1.I'm also reminded of the danger they are in. They are being hunted.
2.The measures were effective. The antelope population has recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope was removed from the endangered species list.
3. On the plain in front of us, we can just make out a herd of graceful animals.
4.Watching them move slowly across the green grass,I'm struck by their beauty.
5.I think about the antelopes and what Zhaxi told me.
 Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.

 五. Summary : After reading the passage, please fill in the following blanks.
We went to Tibet to observe Tibetan antelopes with Zhaxi as our guide.
