Analysis of the teaching materials:
本文出自蕭伯納的戲劇劇作《賣花女》（Pygmalion），講述了說話不饒人的語言學家Henry Higgins與友人打賭，要在六個月之內，將滿口鄉音、在倫敦街頭賣花的少女Eliza Doolittle改造成大家閨秀，出席上流社會的舞會而不被揭發。Eliza通過Henry一連串的發音及儀態訓練，最終被改造成優雅貴婦。本節選為Henry和友人打賭的一幕。文本中人物對話靈動風趣，性格沖突明顯，通過賞讀此文本，學生能直白地感受到不同人物性格特征的極大差異，體會到作者語言中用詞的精妙，品味語言背后作者對于當時英國的腐朽保守的等級意識的抨擊，對于質樸善良的高尚人性的贊美，和對于丑惡虛假的諷刺。
