1教學(xué)目標(biāo)

1. Let the students get familiar with the topic of growing pains. As the topic is quite common to them. 

2. Encourage them to practice their spoken English by talking about their own experience or combining what they 

    have seen and heard in the daily life.

2學(xué)情分析
Many Ss feel that the adults around do not understand many of the problems they have.
3重點(diǎn)難點(diǎn)

1. Help students to learn something about growing pains,   

2.  Relate the information given in the book to the students’ own experience and let them express their opinions  

     fully and freely.

3. Strengthen their abilities to find and solve problems.

4.1.1教學(xué)活動
活動1【導(dǎo)入】M1 Unit2 

Teaching procedures:

 

Step One: Lead-in

1.Let the students enjoy two video clips.

  Q1:What did you see from this video?

       The two children were arguing with their parents on whether they should wear school uniforms or 

       not.

 Q2:What is a generation gap (代溝)?

    A generation gap is a lack of understanding between generations caused by their different attitudes

    and experiences.

2. Teacher may use the following questions to activate student’s interest in the problems between 

    parents and teenagers.

 Questions:

  ① How many people are there in your family?

  ② Do you love them?

  ③Have you ever shouted at them?

  ④What will you do if your parents want you to do something you dislike?

  ⑤Could you tell me what kind of problem you have with your parents?

     Encourage the ss to talk freely by using the following useful words or phrases.

misunderstanding… distrust problems   interference    force to you to do something…

 

Step Two: Presentation

1. Picture talking

Picture 1

  What is the boy doing?

  What is the mother doing?

  How is she probably feeling?

  What feelings may the boy have?

Picture 2

  What happens to the girl with a bag?

  What did her parents ask her to do? 

  Can you guess what she will do?

Picture 3

  Why are the boys and girls around the pretty lady?

  What does the girl want to do? Is she allowed to do so? Why or why not?

  What feelings may  the girl have ?

Picture 4

  What is the boy probably doing?

  Did the boy do well in his exams?

  How does his mother feel about the score? What feelings may the boy have?

2. Team work: create a short story about the picture

   Discuss in groups to imagine a situation of the picture, then describe it in your own words. Teacher 

  can give example first.

  Story of picture 1:

    One day, my best friend, Tom, introduced a piece of rock music to me. I liked it very much. So when I got home, I couldn’t wait to listen to it. I lost myself so deep in the music that I didn’t pay attention to

the volume.Just then my mother shouted at me, “Do you have to turn up your music so loud?” I was 

surprised. I found my father looking at me angrily, who was working at the desk. My young sister 

covered her ears with hands. I disturbed them. So I had to turn off the radio. I knew I made a mistake, 

but I wish they could know how much I love this piece of music.

 

Can you create a story about these pictures?(圖片見課件)

 

 

Step Three: Discussion

      Ask ss to focus on the questions and think about the answer individually first. Let them tell the true feeling. As for the last question, teacher may ask the ss how they think about the experience now. 

After talking about the questions, guide the ss to think about the problem of generation gap and 

discuss how to overcome the problems.

  Use the following questions:

  Do you think there is a generation gap between you and your parents?

  Does the generation gap really exit?

  How do you overcome the gap?

  Let the ss conduct a feedback activity.

 

 Step Four: Summary

       Make a conclusion: Growing pains can be very painful if we do nothing to understand others and make others understand us. Try to let your parents know how you feel and care your parents’ feeling,  too. In this class we have talked about the difficulty in growing up. We have a warm discussion about    the pictures and the problems happening to children and their parents. From this class we know out    parents’ love is rue and selfless. Now I give you your homework—write a few words to your parents       from you deep heart, which can express your love to your parents.

 

Step Five: Homework

   Write a passage about your growing pains. (About 100 words)
