Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge objective:
To help the students read the new words correctly and get familiar with them through an introduction of a computer;
To get the students to know more about computers, including the development, AI, the advantages and disadvantages of using computers. 2. Ability objective:
To enable the students to introduce computers using as many new words they learned as possible and improve their speaking skill through presentation. 3. Emotional objective:
To raise the students’ awareness of using computers properly and call on them to make good use of computers and the Internet to make their life and study happier.
Teaching Important Points:
1. To learn new words through an introduction of a computer; 2. To introduce computers using the new words they learned.
Teaching Difficult Points:
1. To enable the students to use what they learned to introduce computers briefly and correctly.
2. To improve the students’ speaking skill and raise the students’ awareness of using computers properly.
The analysis of the words and students:
Students are interested in computers and know some basic words and knowledge about them so it is a good idea to teach new words through an introduction of a computer. As everyone knows, the best way to learn words is to use them in contexts. In addition, they enjoy learning through cooperation in a relaxing atmosphere. So I will ask them to prepare their introduction about computers in groups and later present individually in the front.
Teaching methods:
Task-based teaching methods including reading words and sentences together, pair work, group work, and individual work; audio-visual teaching method.
Teaching Aids:
A multimedia computer; A projector; PPT
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in:
1. Ask some students to introduce computers briefly; 2. Present the learning aims to lead in the lesson.
Step 2: Ask the students to read the new words together and correct the pronunciation if
necessary. Step 3: Help the students get familiar with and learn the new words through an introduction
of a computer, including the development, AI, the advantages and disadvantages of using computers. Step 4: Pair work (boys & girls) and exercise:
Boys read the English words or phrases together and girls translate them in to Chinese together and then finish the blank-filling together.
Step 5: Group work:
Four students form a group. Divide the students into several groups and ask them to prepare their introduction of a computer using as many new words they learned as possible. They can discuss with each other and write down the sentences.
Step 6: Presentation: Individual work.
Choose some representatives from several groups to present their introduction in the front. Encourage them to try and not to be afraid of making mistakes.
Step 7: Summary, consolidation and homework::
Summary: I hope you can make good use of computers and the Internet to make your life and study happier.
Ask the students to reread the words they learned to consolidate.
Homework: 1. Read and recite the words. 2. Finish the exercise. 3. Write a brief
introduction about computers using the words and expressions you have learned.
