II. Teaching procedure Step1. Lead-in Enjoy a video clip.
Question: What’s the video clip about?
Step2. Reading comprehension
(1) Ask students to read the story quickly and answer the following three questions. What is an idiom?
What languages was the Bible first written in? Why should we learn English idioms?
(2) Ask students to focus on para2-6 and find out all the idioms mentioned in the reading passage.
(3) Ask students to put the idioms they’ve learnt into practical use.
Step3. Supplementary reading (I)
(1) Ask students to read the passage and find out the origins of the English idioms. (2) Ask students to do some practice with the idioms mentioned in the reading passage.
Step4. Idioms in the examinations
Step5. Supplementary reading (II)
Group work: work out 30 common English idioms
Step6. Homework
(1) Try to finish the rest of the English idioms.
(2) Read the text carefully again and work out the usage of some important words and phrases.
