教學目標
Teaching aims:
1. knowledge goals:
1) Words: guitar, sing, swim, dance, chess, play chess, draw, speak, speak English, join, club
Sentence pattern: ① —Can you play the guitar? —Yes, I can./ No, I can't.
                             ② —What can he/she do? — He/She can dance.
                             ③ —What club do you want to join? —I want to join the chess club.
2) Grammar:the use of the Modal Verb “can”.
2. Ability goals:
   1) Students can talk about their abilities.And they can write an application.
   2)Students are able to use new knowledge in their daily life.
3. Moral goals:
           Setting up the real situation, students are able to use new knowledge in their daily life and become interested in learning English.
4學情分析
Stuedens are poor in English, especially in oral English. They seldom speak English in their class and the daily life. So the teacher would try her best to set up real and suitable situation to encourage them to speak English.
5重點難點
1. Students could talk about their abilities and talant.
2.Students are able to use new knowledge in the real situation.
 
6教學過程
6.1第一學時
6.1.1新設計
Step1. Lead in 
  Guess an insttument--guitar.Then ask:Can you play the guitar?lead in the topic:Today ,let’s learn Unit1 Can you play the guitar? 
Step2. Presentation 
 1. Look at the pictures of the teachers.
  Q: What can Miss Lei do? –She can dance. 
      What can Mr. Guo do?—He can do kung fu.
  2.Show some pictures, lead in the students talk about the activities: 
     Q: What can he/she/they do? --He/She can dance/sing/play the guitar/play chess/ swim...
     Q:-- Can you dance/sing/swim /dance/swim/...?
          --Yes, I can./ No, I can’t. 
 
      --Can he/she dance/sing/swim /dance/swim/...?
     --Yes,he/she can./ No, he/she can’t. 
 
     I can dance/sing/swim/... I want to join the music/swimming/... club. 
   (Students could learn about the new words,useful expressions and sentence patterns.)
Step3. Practice 1a 
 1.What can these people do? Match the activities with the people. 
 2. Check the answers. 
Step 4 . Listening 1b 
1. T: Now let’s listen to the tape, find out the right conversation, and number them 1-3. 
2. Check the answers: (3, 2, 1 )
 
Step 5. Pair work 
1. Talk about what you can do and what club you want to join.
      A:I want to join the _____ club. 
     B:Can you ____? 
     A:Yes, I can./No, I can’t. 
 
Step 6 . Listening 
  1. Work on 2a; 
    T: Now, look at the pictures on P2, listen to the four conversations  and circle the clubs you hear 
    Check the answers with the class. 
  2. Work on 2b; 
     Then, listen to the recording again and fill in the blanks.
    Check the answers with the Ss. 
 
Step 7. Interview (Groupwork) 
  Today is Club Day Members Wanted for Our School Clubs Invite one host and five interviewers to the front of the classroom and begin the interview.
       Host: What club do you want to join?
           A:I want to join (參加) the ___club.
           B:What’s your name? 
          A:My name’s____.
          B:Can you____? 
          A:Yes, I can.I can ____. 
          B: Can show us now? 
          A: Yes, I can.(Then show the talant) 
          B:Welcome to our club. 
 
  The other students take out the exercise books, listen and take notes. 
    Finally make a report. 
           Report: I can ____, I can't ______. I want to join the _____ club. Tom can _____. He wants to join the ____ club.May can____.She wants to join_____...That’s all. Thank you!
 
Step8. Writing 
    Write an application. 
 
                 Dear ___Club, My name is _____. I can't ___,but I can ___. And I like____.So I want to join our____ club.Please call
  me    at______.Thanks.

Step9.Exercise
Look at the pictures and fill in the blanks with “can” or “can’t“. 
 1.She has no arms. But she _______ draw with her feet! 
 2.He doesn’t have arms. But he _______ play ping-pong! 
 3.They _______ stand up. But they _______ play basketball!
    (Even though they are disabled, they can do so many things. Encourage the students to learn from them.)
 
Step10.Summary 
     My harvest 
Activities: sing, swim, dance, draw, play chess, speak English, play the guitar 
Clubs: English club, art club, music club, chess club, swimming club 
Sentences: Can you sing? --Yes, I can./No, I can’t.
                  I can play the guitar. I can’t play chess. 
                  What club do you want to join? 
                 I want to join the music club. 
 
Step 11.Homework: 
       1. Remember the new words and expressions after class.
       2. Write an application
