Step1 Lead in (Pre-reading)
T: Good morning boys and girls. I’m Miss Huang, an English teacher of this school. I am happy to meet you and be your English teacher this time. Let me introduce myself. This is my information card.
I like English very much and I can speak English very well. I also like singing. So I can sing a little. What about you? What can you do?
I think most of you are very good learners. And everyone can be a good learner. So our school is going to make a story wall(故事墻) of good learners. And you can share your stories on the wall so that you can learn from each other.
What is a good learner？ I will show you some examples, are they good learners? . (Show pictures)
Look at the pictures and fill in the blanks.
*The boy couldn’t play the piano but he can play a little now.
*The boy could play Ping-Pong a little, but after learning, he can play very well now.
*Polly couldn’t speak at all before. But now it can speak English very well. It can sing English songs.
Read them out together.
So can you tell me what a good learner is?
At first, could they do the things very well? No, maybe they couldn’t do it at all. or they could only do … a little. But after learning? They can do very well.

Now let’s open your book, turn to page 69. Read for the first time and check who is the girl, finish her information card(個人信息卡). 1st reading--- Name—Jenny Place---London
Hobbies--- play the piano and write Dream Job--- a writer
2nd reading--- In what order does the writer introduce Jenny? Finish the time line. 3rd reading Finish the time line and her personal experiences (板書)
Q1: So what do you think of Jenny? Do you think that Jenny a good learner? (Can you find out some supporting sentences? 找出事實依據)
She couldn’t write---could write a few words---can write very well. (回到板書)
She couldn’t see anything any more---She can write well./ She is writing her first book. Q2: How can she do it when her life was so hard?
