Content: Grammar study of unit 5 Book 6 
This teaching period mainly deals with the grammar:the use of “v-ing”. From what we learned, we know “v-ing” has many functions except predicate. In this unit, we will only learn “v-ing” form can be used as adverbials which is a very important  grammar in the non-infinitive. The main task of this class is to review and strengthen its main usages and meanwhile to break through its most difficult points in using this structure.  
Process and methods 
1.To ask the students to sum up the main rules from the given sentences and emphasize its usage from sentences in text. 
2.To ask the students to finish the exercises with the important points leaned. 3.To ask the students to summarize the main points of the v-ing form. 4.To deal with the most difficult points in learning this grammar patterns. Emotion,attitude and value 
1.To get the students to become interested in grammar learning. 
2.To develop the students' ability of analyzing and summarizing. 
Important and difficult points    
1.To get the students to understand the main difficult points thoroughly . 
2.To enable the students to finish the difficult exercises by using points related. Teaching procedures Step 1 lead-in 
Ask the students to read the sentences to be familiar with v-ing form and sum up the main points in v-ing form.

Ask the students to read the sentences taken from the text with v-ing form. Step 3 Important points practice. Task 1: Summing up 
     Ask students to summarize the main points of the v-ing form 
Task 2: Grammar practice 
1.Give out test papers to the students and ask them to finish these exercises quickly and correctly using summarized points to deepen its usages. 
Step 4 Task-based difficult points learning (breaking through three main 
difficult points) 
1.V-ing form combined with clauses 
2.Further studying the absolute structure and independent component. 
3.The three main points paid attention to using v-ing form 
Step 5 Summary 
      Sum up this main points learned in this class together to strengthen students’ 
confidence of learning. Step 6 Homework 
1.Finish off the Workbook exercises. 
2.Preview the reading passage and mark any part they can't understand well.

2. 1--6中的現在分詞短語在句中分別作___________狀語、__________狀語、___________狀語、___________狀語、___________狀語、___________狀語。
3.現在分詞與句中主語為邏輯上的主動關系時用doing或having done; 為被動關系時用being done或___________(如例句5).
4.現在分詞的否定形式是在其前加not,形式為___________或___________(如例句7、8)

I. v-ing form as adverbial:  point one

形式 意            義
一般式 主動doing 與句子主語構成邏輯上的主動關系,與謂語動詞同時發生或幾乎同時發生。
被動being done 與句子主語構成邏輯上的被動關系,與謂語動詞同時發生或幾乎同時發生。
 
完成式
主動having done 與句子主語構成邏輯上的主動關系,先于謂語動作發生。
被動having been done
或直接用過去分詞done表示
與句子主語構成邏輯上的被動關系,先于謂語動作發生。
 
課文原句感知
1. Having experienced quite a few earthquakes in Hawaii already, I didn’t take much notice.

用所給詞的適當形式填空

II. v-ing form as adverbial: point two
現在分詞作狀語時表示時間、條件、原因、讓步其結構相當于一個狀語從句,因此可和時間、條件、原因、讓步等狀語從句轉換。
時間:While waiting for the bus, he met Mary.
=while he was waiting…..,he….
條件:Taking the path that leads out of the town, you will come to a thick wood.
=If you take the paths that leads ….., you will…..
原因Being ill, he was sent to hospital.=Because I was ill, he was sent …..
讓步:Living miles away, he attended the course.= Though he lived miles away, he…..
結果: 作結果狀語時,通常放在句末,用逗號與前面的部分隔開
    It rained heavily, causing severe flooding in the area.
=It rained heavily so that/ and it caused ……
伴隨:作伴隨或方式狀語,相當于并列句
All night long he lay awake, thinking of(=and thought of) the problem.
But later, people developed a way of printing, using (=and use )rocks.
句型轉換
①When she heard the terrible noise, she turned around immediately.
_________________the terrible noise, she turned around immediately.
②If you turn to the left, you'll find the school.

III. v-ing form as adverbial: point three
可直接用過去分詞分詞(短語)作狀語,其邏輯主語必須和主句的主語一致,如果不一致,必須用獨立主格結構表示,也就是在前面加上它的邏輯主語。
. Everything prepared, we began to carry out the plan
= when everything was prepared, we began………..
②. Spring coming, the field are full of life=when spring comes, the field are…….
③. The teacher being ill, the lecture was put off.
=As the teacher was ill ,the lecture was ……..
. Weather permitting, we will go for a spring outing.
=If weather permits, we will go……..
. More time given, we would have done it much better.
=If more time had been given, we would have……
⑥. The boy stood there, his right hand raised=his right hand was raised.

⑦(浙江高考)Bats are surprisingly long­lived creatures, some________(have) a life span of around 20 years.
IV. v-ing form as adverbial: point four
1.現在分詞的否定結構是在分詞前加not其完成式的否定結構通常把not放在having前面。
Not knowing how to find the subway, I asked a policeman for help.
2. 現在分詞作狀語時,其邏輯主語必須與句子的主語一致。如果不一致,必須用獨立主格結構來表示,也就是在分詞前面加上它的邏輯主語。
The train having gone, we had to wait for another day.
3.有些現在分詞短語,其形式的選擇不受上下文的影響,稱作獨立成分。如generally speaking (一般說來), judging from/by (從……判斷), considering (考慮到), allowing for (考慮到), taking ... into consideration (考慮到), regarding (關于), supposing (假定)等。
Generally speaking, girls are more careful than boys.      
首先判斷句子正誤,然后改正錯誤句子
①Not knowing how to do it, he asked me for help.                   
②Having not finished his work, he was punished by his boss.
③Hearing the news, tears came to her eyes. 
④Judging from his accent, he is from the south.
