The Teaching Plan for the Violence of Nature
一．整體設計思路：
本節課的教學內容為本模塊的閱讀篇章，該篇文章屬于說明文，其主題為龍卷風和颶風的介紹。我結合教材對篇章進行適當的增補，讓學生了解龍卷風和颶風來臨時的一些應對措施，并對此篇章進行了深度閱讀。 二．教學目標
Students are expected to be able to
1. Learn about what is a tornado and what is a hurricane;
2. Know about how to protect themselves when a tornado and hurricane occur; 3. Learn how to collect and deal with information they need through team work; 4. Learn how to analyze the structure of exposition
5. Realize the importance of protecting themselves when natural disasters occur. 三．教學重難點
1. How to get the key information and summarize it; 2. How to express their suggestions
四．教學過程 Step1:Lead-in
Watch a short video and answer the questions: What happened in this area? What was the family doing?
How about the trees and houses?
設計意圖：通過視頻，引出話題，讓學生感知龍卷風的巨大破壞性以及觀察到龍卷風來臨時人們的應對措施，為后面的討論作鋪墊。 Step2:Reading
1. Read what is a tornado and underline the supporting sentences for the questions: What is a tornado? How strong are the tornado winds? Where does it often occur?
What damages are caused? How many tornadoes are there in US each year? What happened in 1925? What were the results?
設計意圖：學生在老師的問題引導下迅速抓到文章的主要信息。 2. The teacher draw the mind map depending on students’ answers; 設計意圖：老師示范怎么梳理信息。
3. Read what is a hurricane and draw a mind map by students themselves; 設計意圖：學生通過校長活動學會自己收集和梳理信息。 4. Share what is a hurricane based on the mind map they draw;
設計意圖：學生通過閱讀輸入了信息，再有條理地輸出信息。 5. Reflect on the passage:
Decide whether the following sentences are describing tornadoes or hurricanes. 1). It moves heavy things to different places. 2). It causes huge wave. 3). It occurs in the oceans. 4). It takes off the fur of a cat.
5). It affects the east coast of the US.
6). It destroys houses without damaging the furniture.

7). It occurs 800 times each year.
8). It occurs 6 times each year in Atlantic.
設計意圖：檢測學生是否已掌握所獲取的信息。
6. Read an extraordinary event and put the following sentences in the right order: a. The coffin was found in the sea near his hometown. b. Coghlan moved to New York.
c. Coghlan died in Galveston and was buried there. d. The cemetery was destroyed.
e. Charles Coghlan went to live in Canada. f. Coghlan moved to Galveston . g. Hurricane occurred.
h. The coffin ended up in the sea. i. Coghlan travelled back to Canada.
7.Thinking: Why does the author mention the story at the end of the passage? 設計意圖：通過排序，讀懂故事；通過問題，讓學生關注并思考文章的結構。 Step3:Discuss in groups:What should we do before and when natural disasters occur?
設計意圖：自然災害隨時發生在我們身邊，通過討論，讓學生了解龍卷風和颶風來臨時我們的應對措施。
Step4:Summary and assignment
設計意圖：通過總結，讓學生在災難來臨前有預防意識，在災害來臨時有保護意識。 五．板書設計：
