1. Teaching Aims:
1) Knowledge Aims:
①To know the related vocabulary:
Disaster, earthquake, right away, in ruins, destroy, shock, rescue… ②Get the students toknow basic knowledge about natural disasters. ③ To acquire more knowledge about the Great Tangshan Earthquake. 2) Ability Aims:
①Students can get the main idea of each paragraph. ②Grasp the basic reading skills.
3) Emotional Aims:
①Get the students to know damages earthquakes bring about. ②Get the students to know how to protect oneself in earthquakes.
③Get the students to be aware of the terrible disasters ,meanwhile get them to face it ,treat it in a proper way, and never get discouraged.
2. Teaching Important Points:
1) Get the students to know basic knowledge about natural disasters. 2) Get the students to learn about Tangshan Earthquake. 3) Get the students to learn different reading skills.
3. Teaching Difficult Points:
1) How to make the students understand the text. 2) How to heighten the reading ability.
4. Teaching Methods:
Task-based language teaching, group discussion, pair work, ask-and-answer, talking, reading, listening.
5. Teaching Aids:
Multi-media and other normal teaching tools.
6. Teaching Procedure:
➜ Step 1: Greeting &Lead-in (7 minutes)
1) Greet the students.
2) Lead-in by a video of the movie 2012.
3) Ask students to talk something about natural disasters, then earthquakes.
➜Step 2: Pre-reading (2 minutes)
Guessing: What would happen before an earthquake? ➜Step 3: Listen to the tape (6 minutes)
Let students listen to the tape and find the answers: 1) Why the earth didn’t sleep? 2) What’s the time? 3) Where’s the place? ➜Step 4: Skimming (4minutes)
Read the text as quickly as possible to find out the main idea of each paragraph and divide the whole passage according to the changes of time.
