To practice the students’ listening skill.
To practice expressing an ending to a story with some important structures and phrases. Key
structure 1. The king remains forever. 2. What made the poor man so happy even though he had
no power, money or fame? Difficulties How to better understand the whole story of the king and
the poor man;
Try to understand the true meaning of happiness.

Lead-in
Revision.
Let the students to make a shot English play. Review the plot of the story in last class. Step 1
Guessing:
What will the story happen next ?
Ask the students to imagine what will happen next. Step 2
Activity 1a.
Show Ss some different endings and then ask Ss to choose one they like by talking about the reasons. Step 3
Activity 1b.
Listen and check (√) the things that happened in the rest of the story. Step 4
Activity 1d.
Listen again. Fill the blanks in the paper, pay attention to the listening tips.
Step 5 Ask Ss to listen for a third time and fill in the blanks. Step 6
Answer the questions:
Ask Ss to imagine as the top general, and answer the questions:
Will you believe the poor man’s words?
What do you think of his thoughts about happiness?
Have a discussion with the partner about your ideas about happiness. Step 7
Discussion.
What is happiness? What’s your happiness? Ask students to express themselves. Step 8
Homework:
1.Role play the story we have learned in today’s listening. 2.Write down the possible ending of the story and email me at : Zhanglandanok@163.com Step9
