T: Good morning, boys and girls. Today’s topic is cultural relics. When we talk about cultural relics, what words come to your mind? How about you? What’s your opinion? What’s your idea?
Ss: Old, beautiful, the great wall…
T: It seems that you know much about cultural relics. Then, how about these pictures? What’s this?
Ss: Teng Wang Pavilion
T: This one? Still familiar?
Ss: Ba Yi Park.
T: This one is famous…
Ss: The Pyramid.
T: To be specific, it’s the biggest pyramid in the world---the Khufu Pyramid. How about this one? No more building…
Ss: Terra cotta warriors
T: The last picture?
Ss: A light.
T: Is it an ordinary light?
Ss: No. It’s beautiful.
T: Yes, it’s a special light decorated with crystal, so we say it’s a fancy light. Fancy means something unique and beautiful. Now look at these pictures. Do they all belong to the cultural relics? Have a discussion in group and give me reasons.
Ss: (discussion)
T: Have you made up your minds? Anyone wants to share their opinion?
Ss: (Ba Yi Park or the light)
T: Since you have different opinions. Let’s find out what is a real cultural relic by learning “In Search of the Amber Room”. first, let me introduce a bit about amber. Amber is the fossil form of the resin from trees. It takes millions of years to form. So is it easy to find the amber?
Ss: No.
T: So it’s very rare. Some amber is even worth 10 times of gold.
Ss: It’s very expensive.
T: In other words, it’s very valuable. Here is a table of amber. How do you feel?
Ss: Beautiful…
T: Can you imagine a room made of amber? What do you think of the Amber Room?
Ss: Fancy…
T: That’s true. But the two pictures only show a small part of the beauty of the Amber Room. Let read the passage and find how beautiful it is indeed.
活動2【導(dǎo)入】Task one: Beauty
T: Please read Para 1-3 and underline the description of the Amber Room.
Ss: (underline the description)
T: You find so many sentences. Now you can turn to your group members and organize the information according to the material, colour, style, size and decoration.
Time is up. Who can introduce the material? You please.
S: tons of amber was used to make it.
T: The colour?
S: had a beautiful yellow brown colour like honey.
T: style?
S: in a fancy style.
T: size?
S: 4 metres long.
T: decoration?
S: decorated with gold and jewels
T: anything else?
S: Six hundred candles lit the room. Mirrors and glasses shone like gold.
活動3【導(dǎo)入】Task two: Value
T: Well done. You’ve found all and from your answer such as tons of amber, gold and jewels, we do see the beauty. But what else do they tell you about the Amber Room.
Ss: Value (It’s valuable)
T: Then can you give some other key words about the value of the Amber Room in the three paragraphs?
Ss: (read Paragraph) the greatest gift, treasure and wonder…
T: excellent. Now I’m totally amazed at the beauty and value of the Amber Room. But there is something even more amazing. Can you find it in the very first sentence of the passage.
Ss: The amazing history.
活動4【導(dǎo)入】Task three: the amazing history
T: Exactly. When we talk about history, what order do we usually follow?
Ss: Time.
T: Very clever. Except time, what other elements do you think of about history?
Ss: People, event, place…(who, what, where…)
T: Yes. Here is a time table. You need to find other information like character, event and place. This task is a bit challenging because you need to read the whole passage. You can work with your partner. Here we go.
Ss: (Read the passage and finish the time table with partners)
T: Have you finished?
Ss: Yes.
T: Anyone wants to introduce the first event?
Ss: (share the answers)
T: Now please pay attention to the place. Prussia was once part of German. and Konisberg was a city of German. That means when people talk about the history of the Amber Room, what else will they think of?
Ss: The history of the Amber Room.
T: Yes, that’s why we say it has an amazing history. Now let’s go back to the title, do you think it is a suitable title?
Ss: (share their opinion)
T: Yes, when we are in search of the Amber Room, we find its beauty, value and history. Now can you tell me why the amber room is a real cultural relic?
Ss: Because of its beauty, value and history.
活動5【導(dǎo)入】Activity:What makes a real cultural relic & descri
T: Then what makes a real cultural relic?
Ss: beauty, value and history.
T: Now can you tell me whether they all belong to the cultural relics?
Ss: Maybe Ba Yi park is not the cultural relic. It doesn’t have a long history.
T: Actually it is a cultural relic. You should pay more attention to the cultural relics around us. I’ve introduced the Amber Room to you. Now it’s you time. You can choose one cultural relic to introduce and you can use the information on the group work sheet. Here are some useful structures you can refer to. Now join your group and get to your work.
Ss: …..(conduct the group discussion)
T: Let’s invite this group to give us a presentation.
Ss: …
T: All of you did a very good job. You also mention that some cultural relics were once destroyed. Only some famous cultural relics have the chance of being repaired. Here is a video of the present situation of the cultural relics.
(Play the Video)
How do you feel after watching the video?
Ss: Sad. The cultural relics are in danger. We should protect them.
T: Yes. Today’s homework is surfing on the internet and find out how we can protect the cultural relics
