Presentation of teaching
Teaching topic: Book 2. Unit1.Cultural relics
Period: Period1.Warming up, Pre-reading and Reading Lesson type: a reading lesson Teaching objectives: (1) Knowledge objectives:
① The students can describe the Amber Room(aspects: color、material、
type、decoration and length)
② The students can tell the story of the Amber Room
(2) Ability objectives:
① The students can practice their ability of reading by skimming. They
will be aware that to get the main idea of the passage ,they usually should go through the first or the last paragraph especially the first sentence.
② By scanning, the students will know how to get the main idea of
each paragraph.
③ The students can get the details by careful reading.
(3) Emotion objectives:
① To enable the students to love our hometown.
② To cultivate the students’ awareness of protecting the cultural relics.
Teaching key points:
(1)The students can tell the history of the Amber Room.

(2)The students can improve their reading and speaking skills. Teaching difficult points: ①How to tell the story.
②How to improve their reading ability. Teaching methods:
Task-based language teaching approach; Oral practice; Questions and Answers; Pair work and group work. Teaching aids:
Multi-media; realia (a necklace made of amber) Teaching procedures:
Step1. Warming up; pre-reading and leading in(7munites)
(1) Warming up: Show the students three pictures, and emphasize the first picture( Terra-Cotta Warriors) and ask some questions: ①What’s this picture? ②Where is it?
③Do you think we should protect it? ④Why?
（2）Pre-reading and leading-in
By a real necklace made of amber, draw the topic—the Amber Room. (Justifications: to get the students to know what is cultural relic; to get the students to love our hometown and be aware of protecting the cultural relics; to arouse the students’ interest of learning the passage. )
Step2. While-reading (18munites)
（1）Skimming: The students go through the first paragraph especially the first sentence to find the main idea of the text.(Task1)
(Justifications: The students can enhance the reading skill by finding out the main idea. )
（2）Scanning: The students are required to go through the whole passage especially the first sentence of each paragraph and match the main ideas with the paragraphs.(Task2)
(Justifications: By scanning, the students can know how to find out the main ideas of the paragraphs. They also have a whole concept of the passage.)
（3）Careful reading:
Task3. Read the first and second paragraphs carefully and complete the chart, which is some specific information about the Amber Room itself. And then try to describe the Amber Room.
(Justifications: By doing this, the students will empress themselves with a whole image of the Amber Room. They also can practice their oral English.)
Task4. Read paragraph 2—5 and complete the chat, which includes some details about the history of the Amber Room.
(Justifications: By careful reading, to enable the students to learn more detailed information about the Amber Room. Besides, to develop the

students reading skill of seeking useful information in the text by key words.)
Step3.Post-reading (15minutes)
Task5.Join the characters and what they did together.
( Justification : To enable them to grasp the clue of the text and grasp it from the whole. Also to help to practice their speaking skill.) Task6. Role Play.
Offer the students a situation：Act as a guide and introduce the history of the Amber Room to the rest of the students.
Point out the way---doing group work: One member of the group will put down the story when they are talking with one another; and then they can choose one of them to act before the class.
(Justifications: By the role play, to enable the students to be more familiar with the history of the Amber Room; to strengthen their abilities of impressing themselves in English; to enhance the students ability of doing jobs using what they have learned.) Step4. Summary(3minutes)
Let the students summarize what they have learned in the class. (Justification: To emphasize the key points.) Step5. Homework(2minutes)
①Finish and polish the story after class. ②Read another material about cultural relics.
